Hello! Smile

my goal for this summer was learning more about sound design, more specific creating basses. I'm listening allot to BSE, teebee, calyx, hive, icicle...and I've noticed a really interesting sound in some tracks of BSE, calyx and teebee,

example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oU85vW_QZU @1.05

i'm not planning to rip off this sound, just curious how to create

what daw are you using? There are plugins like native instruments massive that make creating these neurofunk sounds easier. Takes a while to learn the ins and outs of massive tho. Everything effects everything. You can modulate pretty much what ever you want. Then its finding the sweet spots in certain sounds and making a bunch of sounds that sound funky and twisted like your last sound but they all have to match and go together which is the tough part. You may have two sick as morphing sounds but they have to fit. It's like a big puzzle. Gotta find the right pieces. I've spent hours and hours on 3 sec worth of mid range bass trying to get it how I want. Sometimes it comes out quick. Other times it takes days or weeks to get something right. It just takes dedication.

The one you refer to, sounds quite a bit like a hoover. Google around a bit and you'll find tons of Youtube tutorials on how to make a hoover.

the way i like to do it is to create a really nice sound. then you make a clone of that sound. then you change the lfo rate or add envelopes to the new clone. get some different movements going on but still keep the same tone and sound. something different but not too different. it still has to match up with what your putting together. if you dont know how to create a sound or what lfo's or envelopes are then google these things first. You have a long way to go of trial and error to make sounds like calyx.

djchavez21 so you mean resampling?
Do you happen to know a good vst to resample ? I have Kontakt but I haven't used it very much.

Just curious Smile

It doesn't matter- just render out the audio and layer it back in. I never used Kontakt much, mainly applied certain effects (such as Camelphat and Ohmicide) and automated all the knobs. Splitting the baqss into low/mid/high bands for separate processing helps as well.
