yes yes tomos. i dont see the problem with reaching a wider audience, yeh i hear what u r saying Junglist about normal people thinking they like it but thats a good thing at the end of the day. yeh maybe 90% or more will treat dnb like a passing fad but some of the norms will be like, this is some bad arse shit, how come ive never heard of this stuff before? why dont they play this on the radio more? and then search out the more "proper" dnb and maybe eventually on to "burn my bum eating glass dont ever wash behind my ears" grind/deathcore (sos to people who like that, im sure u do wash behind your ears Wink ). i remember i got into underground music cos they played it on the radio (it was a pirate station but i had never heard of it before and was totaly moved by it and i remember thinking those questions to myself). anyways, the more people liking pendulum will mean more people in the rest of the dnb scene.

wow this seems to have sparked quite a discussion! u know i like the idea of Pendulum bringin more attention to DnB, but imo the truth of the matter is that most their new fans will only like them for the commercial rock stuff they're doin now - and prob not "get" their older stuff, a lot of people tend to think DnB is just repetitive, annoying "boom boom" music - i've been ridiculed a few times in the past for luvin DnB and its really pissed me off!! Evil (but i guess anyone who has never been to a rave and felt the true power of DnB may have trouble grasping the very concept or even the ear to listen for details like the scissor-like breaks between each snare or even the whole culture that the scene is built around) - i remember the 1st time i heard proper DnB was at uni, my (soon to be) mate was pumpin sum dark nut-crunchin tune out of his balcony - that was me hook, line & sinker and have been since - i was like "what have been doing all these years without this music???!!!"

i think if Pendulum actually made another commercial DRUM N BASS album and got it released on the charts - then I would be satisfied that they have really done their part for bringin real attention for true DnB (may sound harsh but thats just my opinion Big Grin ) apart from that good luck to em, they're livin the high life now!

tomos yeh your right, i should listen to it before i slag it off,i see what your l saying and do kind of agree with you to a certain point. im just not a fan of commercialism of anything , like i dont watch or go to football anymore because it has become so commercial that it is a joke, i just wouldnt personally like to see the scene go commercial. How long till we get the emirates arena lol. im not saying that everyone that disagrees is wrong, just saying my view on it.

Honestly, I don't think it is necessary to listen to the whole album before judging.
If you didn't like the style from their previous album and you hear snippets from the current one and you notice that they have moved even more into the direction where you didn't want them to go in the first place, then it's ok to say: Not my kind of music.
I can see a faint connection to the music I (for myself) classify as DnB, but it seems like they are growing away from it because they noticed they can reach a bigger audience with their current style --> Cash.

It's a bit like the stuff that happened to The Chemical Brothers or Fat Boy Slim, bigger budget, guest vocals and all of a sudden it's a totally different act/style.

Ok, everyone has to pay their bills, but don't expect me to go all wild about this.

Haven't listened to the new album so I can't comment on it.

However, I really liked 'Hold your Colour' and it was the first DnB album I've ever listened to. Had I not heard that more accessible blend of styles I may have never gotten into DnB in the first place. Pendulum is the kind of group that introduces you so then you can dig deeper into the more unknown subgenres.

It's nothing like Hold Your Colour.

I'll tell ya sumthin funny, my sis (whos not a DnB head but may listen to the occasional liquid tune) knew about Pendulum Hold Your Colour as I played it to her a few months back. She called me the other day and said "was listening to Pendulum Propane Nightmares on the radio - what the f*** was that??!!)

she seemed more bemused than anything else Shocked

still grey came out on timeless thats why its not on the second edition and is their most musical tune absolutley beautiful all their early stuff was indeed ground breaking but they went the way of the dollar and diluted their style somewhat.

the thing that gets me is they slated dnb after it had given them the success they craved but the backbone of their sound is still dnb.
as for their new toss not what i am feelin

at least roni size remembers where he came from and he could have gone on a right tangent with reprazent

new pendulum album is a bit samey-samey, all the tracks are too similar in terms of style, rhythm and structure on some of the tracks. They've got a unique sound, ill give em that, but the album jus seems lazy to me, doesn't really progress the "pendulum sound" at all and its hardly ground-breaking. whatever happened to the pendulum of yesteryear? another planet, the terminal, slam, masochist, bacteria remix, pack of wolves.....none of the tracks of the new album even come close to any of these......and as for slagging off dnb..... Mad

i think its wrong to say that its just pendulum that have brought interest to dnb. all they did was try to commercialise it. i think more credit should go to artists like london electricity high contrast and andy c people who have had the biggest effect on the genre. every body bangs on about pendulums remixes and some of there songs i like (another planet) but for me i like the more musical stuff. in my opinion high contrasts remixes make pendulum sound ameuter but who cares what i think
