welcome!

On the link you gave they say this:

deliver exceptionally flat, and nothing but an accurate response that you can trust

and this is kind of what you're looking for

example of freq. response

try to find the most equal freq response, so that in all frequencies, from 20Hz till 20kHz (and maybe beyond but most of the people cannot hear beyond that, only feel) the speakers give you the same sound as the data in your computer or hardware has.

Infrasound and ultrasound (below your hearing limits and above)

Continuing from that point, I personnaly wouldn't trust a website like that unless I've heard the speakers and have seen a graph like twith the responsivity, to just see and hear what you're looking for. I would want to go to a shop with a person standing behind the desk, then jumping in front of it out of enthousiasm because he/she wants to help me find the best monitors, and then have a good chat about do's and dont's. And then listen to some stuff. And then, being lectured well and sure about your case, walk out of the shop with a new pair of monitors under my arm Smile

I recently heard from somebody about the krk's being not quite linear responsive over the whole freq spectrum, particularly in the low area. They seem to have extra sub to make it sound/feel better. So it's possible that you will be making tracks on these monitors which won't have the nice sub they had when you were in your room/studio. But it's just something I heard from a guy in a shop, and I don't know how true it is, but it might be worth finding out Smile

well I understood the first part of your post, the second barely.. but, dude, what youre on??? offcourse there is an "artistic" side of the track, making music is art in the end.

but we're here mainly (I guess) to give views about PRODUCTION. the technicalities, you know how good the mixdown sounds, use of effects, etc etc. dnb being (again mainly) dancefloor music there is the dancability factors, how good the beats roll, the power when the bass drops etc etc..

so leaving the personal tastes aside gives the most objective reviews, although it is sometimes very hard to do because of great dislikes...

maybe a combination between subjective and objective is the best someone can get as a review... because it's peoples feelings you're talking about when a track is being heard/played on the dancefloor, so therefor you can hardly ignore the link to the art/subjective side.

But I do agree with the fact that besides 'oooh I just luuuuuv this sound' (or the negative: 'Oh I just hate this kind of sound') you do need that opinion to be backuped with a more technical meaning.

And in the end most of the technical tips are also saturated by subjectives 'cause there, on the technical side, you have certain ways of achieving an outcome, which you will learn during your time being a producer..

Its for example depending on a basic or advanced understanding of sound (engineering) you have and that being combined by methods the user started to use because of liking a certain sound, and maybe learning from enthousiastic friends or whatever. And so on and so on.

So in a way I don't agree that one should try to review completely objective.

Just be honest and backup your opinion in the best way you can.

where oh where is the mid/ midhigh????

Can't really make a review out of this quality..... But I think if the high ends are back in their right place it's a nice track. Not overly original but nice and solid. Sometimes the repetitions are becoming a bit boring for me, especially in the part before the little break around 4.20, and after that small break the track could use more variation and a different melodyline in the bassline.
More freakin' could work out well I guess Smile , like the small part around 5.05 min.

Think most of the patterns are a bit predictable. Your percussion could also use some more variation.

Ah, nice change at 5.50. I like that Smile

Overall, nice track.

Hihats start to annoy me a bit after a while.... But maybe you wanted it like that.

The vocal gives the song a slow feeling, which is flatly opposed to the feeling of the rest of the song which gives me a weird feeling.

I like the 'hardcore'kind of sound which u use in the beginning of the track...

I'm curious what your track will sound like after mixdown. Think it will show a lot more then it does now Smile

Aargh, I was writing a cool review and then Firefox died.

K, what I was saying: Nice nice nice!!!! I really like the first part of the track. Playful and nice structure imo.

Bassline that comes in 'round 2.13 sounds too farty (hehe, sorry for the stupid description Wink ) and untill 3.39 the track feels a bit boring and standard. After that point (2.13 min) untill the sudden ending it flows well and fits better with the first part of the track.

The ghostsounds in the beginning are really well chosen, also the high bell 'ting' fits nicely. Maybe some pitch variations in that pattern during the middle part of the track.

Nice sub in the break before 2.13.

Overall the track has a really good athmosphere and I would certainly play this on a party exept for the 2.13 till 3.39 part: has too much 'stops' for me and therefor doesn't flow that well imo.

And has the track really ended at 4.06? 'Cause I expect and would like more Smile

thrumpet is boring in the beginning and becomes higher at a weird moment. And as has been said, try to pan this in the middle and the sub that seems to follow the thrumpet, maybe you could let that melodyline differ a bit. So that every instrument doesn't follow the same path but complete each other.

There is a nice percussion thing in the background in the beginning of the track till halfway, maybe you could bring that onto the foreground and let it take over the role of the hihats once in a while?

high piano tones around 1.48 are nice, you could let them come back more around that part.

sometimes the track feels a little cheesy, but the drop around 2.50 is nice, but then as it continues it's a bit boring. I don't exactly know what it misses, but I think it's lack of details in patterns.

For me the track starts to flow well after the 2.50 or 3 min, I think because the piano tune comes back, again becomes better at 4 min.

Overall it's a nice idea, but a bit more variation could do no harm Smile

cheers and bring some more cheerful shit!!!

RE: Active Speakers 04-08-2008 13:49 Forum: Hardware

well there are some differences in size and weight, the woofer gets +1 inch in the RP6 G2 series, the G2's are magnetically shielded, the 150watt G5 is not. Last two have a bigger frequency range for a few freq's: the the 150watt G5 starts off with 53hz with and the RP 5 G2 and RP 6 G2 start off with 49hz. Minim differences imo, but slightly better upgraded I guess.

If the money doesn't matter I would go for the one with the bigger woofer and the higher freq range. But did you listen to them?

tips! Yeah! thanks Smile

- ctrl+S (and use 'save as New Version'; for example handy when one file becomes corrupted because of stupid vst's you can still go back to a previous file. But just do it often, otherwise it won't help you out.
- click options -> general settings -> show legacy precomputed effects: gives you extra options in tweaking in your channel settings window for each sample. Doesn't work for vst but there you probably can already tweak enough.
- drag a sample from library into your automation part and then you can see the waveform, then click on small arrow in the corner and for example try out the chop function (stutter, beat shuffle)
- (time)stretching samples put in the automationfield is also easy here, just click on the right side when your mouse becomes an arrow and drag it till where you want it.

Aah, and ofcourse ctrl+S

- Set your max undo history to 999 in options -> general settings, really nice to be able to undo as much as you like. For total profit also click Undo knob tweaks.

Hmmm, was ctrl+S already mentioned?

Nice to hear that stuff!! And nice thread, am curious what it will bring Smile

I find it quite interesting how people step out of their normal -thinking-patterns when intoxicated and then be creative in a completely different way(, and in a way be a bit more free I think...).

Most of the times when I was making music and on drugs (weed/alc/x etc.) I tended to become sort of overenthousiastic and was racing through all kinds of sounds and rythems, put them together and just goooooooo!!
So in the end I was able to get multiple tracks out of one. Ghe.

For example when I smoked weed I really had problems keeping a good sort of 'overview' and let myself drift off so far away. Nice to experience but harder to follow when sober.

Funny to see how chaotic minds can work once in a while. And then be actually productive!

But well, here's an older one of mine, sadly enough I lost the data. I like the happy touch and sort of silly sounds, but don't mind the quality please Smile

@ Gregg: thanks for the warm welcome, like your tips and will pay attention to the things you said Smile

@ Minas: think you're right about the snare, and also think that the drums are too busy, I'll try and cut down some crap in there Smile .
Compression will be for a later stadium because I like to let sounds float more freely and then in the end try to capture them as a whole, so I can hear more clearly where everything goes during work and not be boundaried by compression, cause compression also gives you less space to work in... Although I do see the benefits, just not for now in this stadium.

Ah, and Minas, thanks for hosting!! Can I ask you why you don't 'like' rapidshare?

@ Ketz: Thanks for your positive reaction Smile , I like!!! Huurraaaaay for happy people Sun Hug

Nice track, especially the sound that starts around 2.11 sec works really well, but personnaly I would like that sound to pop out a bit more, just because it´s catching my interest Smile
Your track could do with less repetition of the voice samples and the sirene because they are quite exceptional to hear and when I hear them multiple times in a non-changed version then it doesn't really stand out and/or add something anymore.
And there's a sound, don't know how to call it but it's streaming through the whole track and sort of sounds like electro/tetris stuff, that one might do better with more variation during the times when its low in toneheight. (Sorry for the clumsy description ghe).
And what's been said before, sometimes the track misses some warmth, maybe it's reverb, or maybe you could work with more soft melodylines which float over the whole.
Next to those points I think it's a nice track, it just needs some more detailed things.
Overall EQ is ok I think, but can't give you any advise on that one because my speakers here aren't that good. At least I didn't hear weird volume differences oslt Smile

Cheers Smile !
