thanks for your reply. what is a soundfont exactly? in this instance, is it a collection of wavs ripped from a game?

shiiiit I misread what you said. I meant 'soundbank'.

what instrument is this.. 13-11-2012 22:55 Forum: Production questions & answers

it starts at 0:04. It goes 'dun da-dun, du-du-du dun da-duuu'. Its some sort of horn. There's another one playing at the same time, but at a lower pitch. I'm not concerned with that one. I just want to know the exact instrument which is producing the sound in question. I had a look through my trumpet samples on Reason, and they all sucked in comparison.
Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I think its an Amen loop (with the lower frequencies attenuated) layered with some random drum hits or drum machine samples

how to make rave stabs? 03-09-2012 21:21 Forum: Production questions & answers

anyone know how to make rave stabs?
for example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O91DJFvY90A
the stab is introduced at 0:38.

is the 'da-da-da-dadada-da' pattern at the start a stab as well?

also, anyone know how rave was made? I'm interested to know, since the software and advanced hardware we have today wasn't around back then

huh? I was just pointing out what the distortion sounded like. I recorded the track from a site and put it onto YouTube.

..
I have sampled stuff from YouTube before, but I'd rather be able to record sounds myself; since that way I could get exactly what I want.

hi Surya! I already have the recording level decreased, my problem isn't clipping.
Listen to 0:29 on this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgEwBCn6OLc and you'll hear what I mean. The kick should be 'clean', but there's this weird distortion thing going on.

OK. Sounds good! Know any good mics? I'm not sure if mine will have a good response

Recording & Sampling 01-08-2012 06:18 Forum: Production questions & answers

Hi! I have two issues. The first is with regards to when I record sound on my PC; I use Audacity with a sample of rate of 48KHz and 24-bit resolution, however when I record the sound is distorted, in a digital way. Its hard to describe, but you might have heard what I mean. I can record stuff but there'll be this sort of digital rumble/noise. How can I fix this?
Secondly, I want to record everyday sounds, but I don't know what would be suitable for the task. I want something that has good quality, can store sounds, and can be carried around. I have a dictaphone... but the quality is, er, questionable.
Thanks for your help!

any of you who've seen Terminator 2 will know what the T-1000 is. anyway, I'm talking about this persistent horn-like (?) sound, you can hear it properly at 0:23 (waahhh.. wahhh...wahhh.. etc). do you know what it is or how to recreate it? THANKS!

16-09-2011 12:13 Forum: Reason

I guess we're all at peace until someone says '__is the best music software'. don't do that...
for me Reason is initially straightforward - you get predetermined instruments, blah blah blah; but then you learn 'bout things in greater detail, such as synthesis; but hey that applies to all DAWs, right?
its a shame you can't get VSTs though; Propellerheads should make a version of Reason with the ability to use 'em. I use Reaktor and it'd be really cool to be able to integrate it with Reason... maybe some day, haha..

damn! all I can guess is that FL exports the sound, but not the EQ's efect upon it. If you get a simple loop up, with no EQ, and export it; does it sound just as it does in FL? that would mean the EQ's being ignored. otherwise, have you got a preferences tab? perhaps FL has a dedicated section where it has settings for the audio driver, which may be creating specific settings for your program. I.E. it could be attenuating FL's bass output, but only in the program itself. It's worth a try, right?
Lastly, what I would typically do is to search 'ASUS A72J bass problem music software' or something similar on the 'net. Perhaps others have encountered the same problem and fixed it.

I don't know anything about FL, but try exporting it as a .wav and see if that sounds as clean as it should. Then convert it to MP3 using this software: http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html

give the sample to me, lemme have a look at it!
I do simple sample editing on audacity, its free and its good for waveforms.
Have you tried EQing, or looping it forward-backward?

make my own patches? I make my own instruments, haha... Reaktor is seriously good once you get the hang of it. not trying to brag or anything, but I made this dub delay thing the other day - the amount of things you can make is only limited by your imagination! and, er, your CPU, the amount of modules available, and.. etc. Big Grin
anyways, you can make your own instruments/ensembles [an ensemble just means the whole thing put together, e.g. 3 instruments all connected together and into the output]. And these can be used as VSTs, provided you got the right software. Damn I wish Reason could support 'em. anyway, I think I'm ranting a bit, so go ahead and try Reaktor, well; get your friend to help you. Seriously, it'll help you understand about music AND electronics at the same time.

screw FL, use Reaktor. oh and yeah just loop those oscillations. by the way, a sawtooth wave looped forward-backward forms a triangle wave; and a square wave looped forward-backward has its pitch decreased by an octave. fun.
