Try experimenting with ring modulation!

It's super secret tech that I use for my pads..

Intro is focking killer mate, really love the melody. You have good compositional skills. I'm more impressed by the intro than I am the body of the tune though tbh. Because the pad and the bass both play the same notes, it gets very repetitive. The vocal sample seems offkey and out of place.

The song really picks back up at 3 minutes! I enjoy the tune a lot more during the time when the leads and bass are playing at the same time, it is much more full and interesting!

Mate, let me tell you, if you beef up the drums and make the bass sick and growly, you'll have one hell of a tune. Keep working on it and push the tune as far as it will go!

Cheers for the review mate.

I'm vibing off of this tune hard, I really like the bassline during the first section. All its missing is a beautiful, melodic lead over it. Would love to hear some gorgeous liquid melodies over that first bassline.

The second section (when the bassline changes and the lead comes in) sounds offkey, you might want to look into getting all the notes working synergistically together.

Some surgical EQing would help clean the mix a little bit more too.

But I'm really liking this track, you should totally finish it! Wouldn't mind having a stab at remixing it either, once it's finished. If that's cool. Smile

Cheers for the review mate.

I must say, this style of DnB isn't generally my cup of tea, but this track is one of the better tracks within the style that I've heard. The biggest detriment to the track is that it seems to lack character, it lacks something that sets it apart from other tunes. But the production sounds solid, I bet this would really smash in a club. Add a little bit more variation and you're good to go!

Keep at it mate.

Cheers for the review mate.

Sick edits on this tune mate, amen sounds very crisp and aggressive. The sub is a little too loud, might wanna tone it down a bit. Also, I don't personally find the atmosphere dark enough - needs more FX and different pad chords. Otherwise, wicked jungle tune, you assassinated it mate. Wink

I've never heard of this second part to side chaining, awesome stuff!

Cheers all of you!

Bass compression 22-03-2010 06:40 Forum: Production questions & answers

Sometimes I have a problem getting my subbass and bass to sound congruent. Would compressing both basses glue the sounds together like compression glues drums together? Or would that be hazardous to the mix?

Also, any bass compression tips in this thread would be very useful.

Thanks!

Check out the Jungle section.

If you want to get into more new school styles like skullstep, darkside, fourth step, you'll need to do additional research - but this is a good website if you want to learn the roots of the music.

My favorite "hard" producer would be Current Value..

Donny, Limewax, Future Signal, Dylan, Raiden, Outside Agency, Lucio de Rimanez, there are tons of others out there..

Anything with DJ in front of it let's fans and other producers know you're hella serious about producing music and playing it in clubs.

Really though..
I personally believe your name should be something special, it should have some sort of personal significance to you. Your name should have more substance than "it looks cool."
Nicknames, artist names, baby names, team names, street names, ship names, all sorts of different names take time to come up with. It doesn't happen overnight. And they are all named for a reason. Take your time, let it come to you.

You said you've been bouncing your track to .wav format, have you tried exporting as .mp3 or converting to .mp3? I know sometimes media players have problems with .wav files.

Also, Winamp has an EQ built into it, you should check and make sure that everything is normal, no presets are activated, no frequencies are being boosted or reduced. Because that could be a big problem.

Also, try playing your song in something other than Winamp to see if its just a problem with that.
